Situation
Argentine real estate investors were defrauded in a U.S. real-estate scheme. The fraud followed a classic and damaging pattern: the same property was sold to more than one buyer, leaving investors who had wired money from abroad holding nothing.
For a foreign victim, pursuing recovery in U.S. courts is rarely straightforward. The money was here, the fraud was here, but the client and the path to relief sat across a border.
Approach
Daniel Fridman led the representation, with Anel Viamontes on the team and Tavarone, Rovelli, Salim & Miani serving as Argentine co-counsel. The firm brought civil RICO claims arising from the property sold to multiple buyers and pressed the case toward resolution rather than a drawn-out fight.
The work drew on the firm's ability to run a cross-border matter in the client's language and to coordinate seamlessly between U.S. litigation and Argentine counsel.
Result
The matter settled in 2023, and a related defrauded-investor matter settled on appearance. The investors recovered through a U.S. civil action built on the fraud they had suffered.
